Renovations to this 1920s house consisted of joining the dining and kitchen areas, a reorganization of the sunroom and mudroom entries, façade renovations and new decking to provide a better connection to the garden. Dark quarter sawn oak kitchen and dining cabinets and wall and stair panels are used to tie together these disparate rooms while referencing the existing high detail of the house. Paired with dark flamed granite counters and walls, these dark forms provide a strong base horizon for an extremely light room provided by new windows and wall removals, and the absence of upper cabinets. The deck, planter and cedar wall panel tie together the new 2 openings at the rear.
