The design challenge for this canopy was three-fold: make a removable canopy over a rear deck using the existing structure only and which does not compromise the access to light and view from the house interior; make a canopy that keeps the rain and sun off the deck table without otherwise shading several dozen pots of plants that live on the same deck; and make a canopy that is artistically complimentary to an oft-photographed garden – an editor/writer’s garden – without upstaging the garden. The solution is one-fold: a simple folded yellow triangle.
