The Tree of Hope

In collaboration with ACME Environmentals, Beth Kapusta,
Judith Schwarz and David Agro

The Garden of Hope was a project initiated by the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation to create a healing garden for cancer patients in Toronto’s High Park. The project proposed knitting the new garden into the naturalized landscape of High Park, and introduced an array of components as ways to structure the public and intimate spaces of the garden: The Great Room with the Tree of Hope – a commemorative Tree which comes to its prime in October, Breast Cancer Awareness month; the Look-out Point and The Front Porch, a mound and long porch which took advantage of the grand view across the lawn to the pond; The Water Source Wall which would begin a real and metaphoric narrative of water through the garden; and the Shadow Garden, a place of intimacy and contemplation.
